Choosing the Right Ink Cartridge (Without the Guesswork)

Buy the wrong cartridge and your printer simply won't recognise it. Two things decide the match: your printer brand and the exact cartridge number printed on your current cartridge — something like HP 305, Canon PG-545 or Brother LC3219.

Fastest route to the right ink: pick your printer's brand. Go straight to HP ink cartridges, Canon ink cartridges, Brother ink cartridges or Epson ink cartridges, then filter by your model number.

Genuine vs Compatible — Where It Actually Matters

For everyday documents and emails, a compatible cartridge does the job at a fraction of the price — there's little visible difference on a printed invoice. Where we'd spend on genuine cartridges is photo printing and anything colour-critical, where the ink formulation and longevity genuinely show. Remanufactured cartridges sit in between: refurbished originals, kinder on both budget and waste.

Always Buy XL If You Print Often

An XL cartridge isn't a gimmick. An HP 305XL prints roughly twice the pages of a standard 305 for far less than double the price — so the cost per page drops sharply. The one exception: if you print only now and then, skip XL. Ink left sitting for months can dry out and clog the heads, and you'll waste what you paid for.

Are compatibles really as good as genuine?
