Tutorial: Create and assign cost centres
Managers can create cost centres and add them to existing units in their organisation. This is particularly useful in larger organisations to more accurately allocate costs to where they are incurred.
Below we explain how to create cost centres for your Viking account and assign them to specific units.
Step 1:
Log in to your Viking account as a manager
- Open the drop-down menu under “My account“ (1).
- Click the menu item „Cost Centres“ (2).
Step 1:
You now get to an overview of all existing cost centres for your Viking account.
- To create a new cost centre, please click on “Add new” (1).
Step 1:
- You can now name your cost centre. To do so, please enter the name of the cost centre in the input field (1).
- Next, please use the drop down menu to select the cost centre's parent unit from your existing units (2).
The currency is preset for your country and cannot be changed.
- Please complete the creation of your new cost centre by clicking on “Save” (3).
Step 1:
- The status message “Cost Centre created successfully” shows you, that the cost centre has been created and saved (1).
- You can disable the cost centre if you no longer need it. To do so, please click on "Disable cost centre" (2).
You can also assign a budget to the cost centre. You can find information on this in the tutorial "Create and assign budgets".
Step 5:
An alternative way to create a cost centre for a unit is via the "Units" function.
Log in to your Viking account as a manager
- Open the drop-down menu under “My account“ (1).
- Click the menu item „Units“ (2).
Step 6:
You now get to an overview of all existing units for your Viking account.
- Please select the unit fpr which you want to create a cost centre by clicking it (1).
Step 7:
You now get to the overview page for the selected unit.
- Already existing cost centres for this unit will be displayed on the overview page (1).
- To create a new cost centre for this unit, please click “Add new” in the cost centres line item (2).
Step 8:
- You can now name your cost centre. To do so, please enter the name of the cost centre in the input field (1).
- The cost centre’s parent unit is already preselected. You will find the unit entered via which you called up the process of creating a new cost centre (2)
The currency is preset for your country and cannot be changed.
- Please complete the creation of your new cost centre by clicking on “Save” (3).
Step 9:
- The status message “Cost Centre created successfully” shows you, that the cost centre has been created and saved (1).
- You will find your new cost centre as a functional item under “Cost Centres” (2).
